* So is this a Web 2.0 gathering or a robotic dorkfest? What's with all the robotic racing and power robot stuff? We're thinking about bringing a big group out to discuss new technology but not if we're going to have botwars. cks: It is what the attendees make of it. I know that's a potentially annoying answer, there are a couple ways to go with specifics: ** Just to clarify although SWARC will bring the arena the people whom will be attending represent robotics in general and not just botwars (or SWARC). Ron for instance creates and designs high speed high powered industrial servos for unmanned reconnaissance vehicle. David's robotic heads represent the cutting edge in technology and human interaction. If this is purely a web 2.0 conference I could just talk about what we're doing with WebWork or the work I do on OpenNMS and we could ditch the robot stuff. But for something that is supposed to be about technology I wanted to try to broaden it to something other than just web based technology. We're just trying to follow the intent of BarCamp. (Yes, even in robotics new and creative technology exists....) So take your pick, do you want to hear about WebWork 2.2 (http://www.theserverside.com/news/thread.tss?thread_id=38491) or robots? Or both? (I should also point out that we we're actually asked to attend by one of the sponsors.) cks: yes you were. it's a technology conference that happens to be attended by many web 2.0 people and not a "web 2.0" conference, and robotics is perfectly appropriate. ** The current list includes people who express their creativity through technology in a variety of ways, including both web sites and robots. Since the original Bar Camp included people working on Web 2.0-ish stuff, the followons have tended to as well, but as this is a Dallas local event we're free to mash it up as we like. If you're looking for people to talk with about AJAX, Ruby &tc you will certainly be able to find some good conversations, but ultimately it's about creative technologists, not any particular technology. ** "Big group" and "new technology" are very general. Being specific would make it easier to answer the question. What topic are you, specifically, passionate about? What technology-related topics is each member of the group, as an individual, passionate about?
