== Pre Bar Camp Dallas Meetup @ Lee Harveys 12.15.2005, around 6:15 PM Ok, so there were aproximately 6 attendees. The police were in fact called, we know because there were sirens in the distance the whole time, but they weren't called for us. But I would call the meeting a success: * Kevin Marvin * Paul Slocum * Eran Kriegshauser * ChristopherStJohn * Adam Keys * Jay Fichialos I forgot my camera, so no Flickr photoset, but the pictures on the Lee Harvey's site give the flavor. We ended up sitting on picnic table benches around an open fire, drinking Pabst, bemoaning the sad state of the Dallas Tech community, and planning its resurgence. Main points: * There should be a little more structure to things than "just show up". This was debated in a mellow way, but accepted as long as the principle was "build some structure into the beginning of the day, but build it to collapse as soon as possible" * General agreement that an all male-software-engineer-type attendee list called for some outreach. * Some worry about predicting attendence. General agreement that you should take the number of people signed up and multiple by a constant. Little agreement on the constant, but 0.5, 2.0 and 3.0 were proposed. Finally zeroed in on "2" as a conservative bet, but need to work out consequences for the resources required. Also noted that not everyone would be there the whole time. -- From Disturbathon experience I would say that I disagree with the "2" constant. I would, in fact, say that it is closer to 1. In general, some of your sign-ups don't attend but they are replaced by some suprise visitors. YMMV. More stuff, but I have to get some work done. Anybody who was there: please add your thoughts/recollections, I'll add more later today. -- Sorry I missed the meeting. Brainfood's annual Christmas dinner was that night and I ended up running errands for it pre-dinner. -- Ean ----- * http://www.leeharveys.com/ * http://www.guidelive.com/portal/page?_pageid=33,97320&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL&item_id=22768 cks:I've taken the liberty of updating the attendees list based on emails... * Stefan Constantinescu (maybe) * Christopher St. John * Jeremy Dunck (maybe) * Ean Schuessler * Kevin Marvin * Garrett Dimon * Eric Molitor (maybe) Evidently Lee Harvey's has wifi. If this is the case, I will be on the #barcamp irc channel and possibly on Skype (check in on #barcamp for details). But to experience true high-bandwidth communication, you gotta show up in person :-) ----- Dammit. I wanted to be there, too.
